Sgt, Charles Edward Thompson, East Yorkshire Yeomanry

Born Wansford 1881. Son of George Porter Thompson and Mary Eliza Thompson, of Wansford, East Riding. A farmer’s son. He had five brothers and two sisters. He was a farmer. Described as 5 foot, 8,5 inches tall, 172 lbs weight, 36-38 inch chest. light blue eyes, light brown hair, Church of England religion.

Served as Lance Sergeant, Charles Edward Thompson. He joined the ERY “D2 Squadron, as a Private, on 12th  March 1903, aged 21. Posted to Egypt, on 10/11/1915. He served in the Middle East, was discharged in May 1916 (term expired on 16/04/1916).

He died of sickness contracted whilst on active service, on 20/09/1920, aged 39, at the Queen Alexandria Hospital, Middlesex.

He left £797 in his will to Arthur and Samuel Thompson, fitters
