BORN HULL 01/06/1891. SON OF THOMAS WILLIAM  AND CLARA THOMPSON AND STEPMOTHER, FLORENCE THOMPSON. HE HAD BROTHERS CHARLES AND JACK, SISTERS, MARY, ANNIE AND ETHEL, AND HALF BROTHER, JOHN WILLIAM

HE MARRIED OLIVE GRANTHAM (1890-1934) AT SCULCOATES, HULL, ON 17/03/1912. HIS WIFE OLIVE THOMPSON & TWO DAUGHTERS, EDNA AND ANNIE, LIVED AT 21 GOODS AVENUE, BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY AND THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE TERRITORIALS. EMPLOYED AS A SEAMAN WHEN WAR BEGAN.

HE ENLISTED HULL. MOBILISED ON 28/08/1916. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6.5 INCHES TALL, 157 LNS WEIGHT, 40-43 INCH CHEST SIZE, AND GGOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 07/01/1917. HE SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED BY GUNSHOT IN 1ST MAY 1917. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 22/08/1917, AGED 27.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, WHO BECAME OLIVE ROONEY.
