BORN HAVEN SIDE, HEDON 1892.  YOUNGEST SON OF JOHN & HANNAH MARIA THORP, OF HEDON. A HULL TEACHER AT THE CRAVEN STREET, SCHOOL. HE TRAINED AS A TEACHER, AT ST JOHN’S COLLEGE, YORK.

HE ENLISTED AS GUNNER, 4535 146TH ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. SERVED IN FRANCE FOR THREE YEARS AND PROMOTED TO SEGEANT. HE DIED FROM GAS POISONING AFTER BEING SHELLED, ON 13/08/1918, AGED 26.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 20/08/1918. *
