BORN HULL 1877. SON OF CHARLES EDWARD THURSTON (1853-1894) AND SARAH THURSTON. HIS BROTHER JOSEPH ALSO LIVED IN GILLETT STREET AND HIS SISTER ELIZABETH LIVED IN CARDIFF. MARRIED ST BARNABAS CHURCH, HULL, 25/11/1900. WIFE GERTRUDE DIXON & THEIR TWO SONS CHARLES AND ALBERT, LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS, 6 PORTLAND PLACE, VAUXHALL GROVE AND 11 JUBILEE AVENUE, GOULTON STREET. HE WAS A FISH TRADE WORKER. ENLISTED BEVERLEY 11/5/1916, AGED 39. A SMALL MAN AT 5 FOOT, 3 INCHES TALL HE WAS DECLARED JUST ABOUT ‘FIT FOR SERVICE’. IT SEEMED HE MISSED HOME AS WHILE STATIONED IN HEDON HE WAS CHARGED THREE TIMES FOR OVERSTAYING HIS PASS. ARRIVED FRANCE 21/10/1916. KILLED IN ACTION 13/11/1916.HIS WIDOW WAS OBVIOUSLY SHORT OF MONE, AS SHE WROTE AN ANXIOUS LETTER TO THE AUTHORITIES ABOUT DELAYS IN HER WAR WIDOW’S PENSION. SHE PROBABLY HAD TO STAY WITH FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AS SHE HAD MOVED AGAIN TO 14 WORCESTER TERRACE, GILLETT STREET.
