BORN HULL 11/01/1893. SON OF JAMES TOALSTER (1854-1913) AND MARY ANN CLEARY (1859-1929), OF 2 KINGS BUILDINGS, NEW GEORGE STREET AND 7 HAMPDEN TERRACE, LOCKWOOD STREET, HULL. SON OF AN OIL SEED PRESSMAN. ONE OF TWELVE CHILDREN. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1913. THE FAMILY WERE ROMAN CATHOLIC. BEFORE THE WAR THOMAS WAS AN OIL SEED MILLER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS ON 30/11/1914. HE MARRIED EVA TAYLOR ON 22/05/1915 AND HAD ONE SON, ALSO CALLED THOMAS, BORN 29/06/1915. THEY LIVED AT 7 KINGSTON BUILDINGS, NEW GEORGE STREET (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS) AND 8, DANESBURY AVENUE, ARUNDEL STREET, HULL. HE SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 14/02/1915. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. APPOINTED CORPORAL ON 12/07/1916. WOUNDED 18/10/1916. KILLED IN ACTION 13/11/1916, AGED 23. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THEIPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE, WITH HIS BROTHER.
HIS TWO BROTHERS ALSO DIED IN THE WAR:- PTE, EDWARD TOALSTER, 2ND EYR, WAS KILLED ON 07/05/1915 & CPL, JOHN TOALSTER, 1ST EYR ALSO KILLED ON 01/07/1916. THEIR NAMES ARE ALL RECORDED ON ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL. THEIR PHOTOS WERE ALL PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 3RD AND 7TH APRIL 1917. ARE ALL LISTED ON HULL’S, NEW GEORGE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR.
