On May 1st, 1915, the British iron minesweeper COLUMBIA, built in 1887 by Matthew Pearse & Co. Ltd. and operated at the time of her loss by British Royal Navy, Admiralty, Rn, was torpedoed and sunk by German warships. 16 crew were lost.
