Trueman, Charles William

Pte, Charles William Trueman, 10th Lincolnshire Regiment

Born Scunthorpe, 1894. Eldest Son of George and Mary Jane Trueman, of Scunthorpe and 62 Cottingham Road, Hull. Charles lived in Hull and was employed as a law clerk, He enlisted at Grimsby, on 17/09/1914. His medical records, describe him as 5 foot, 9 inches tall, 168 lbs weight, 38 inch chest, dark brown hair, brown eyes, Church of England Religion.

Served as Private, 231. 10th Lincolnshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 09/01/1916. Killed on the first day of the battle of the Somme, on 1st July 1916, aged 24. He had served in the Army, for one year and 291 days. His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 08/08/1916. *

He left £234 in his will to his friend, Miss Elsie White, a school teacher, at 6 Market Hill, Scunthorpe.

His youngest brother, Frank Trueman,  had been missing at Loos, since 13th October 1915.
