BORN SOUTH FERRIBY 1898. SON OF MRS MILICENT FAREM JACQUES (1859-1929) & THE LATE JOHN MARTIN TWIDLE (1857-1922), OF SOUTH FERRIBY CLIFF, BARTON UPON HUMBER, AND 31 GREEN LANE, BARROW ROAD, BARTON ON HUMBER, LINCOLNSHIRE. HIS FATHER WAS A FOREMAN AT A STONE QUARRY WORKS.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, M/2/266619, ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 12TH ROYAL IRISH RIFLES. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 25/10/1918, AGED 20. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER JOHN MARTIN TWIDLE. HE IS BURIED AT INGOYGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY, WEST-VLAANDEREN, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GOD’S WILL BE DONE”.
HIS BROTHER, GUNNER, CHRISTOPHER TWIDLE, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/09/1918, AGED 30. THEY ARE COMMEMORATED ON THE SOUTH FERRIBY WAR MEMORIAL, WITH THEIR THIRD BROTHER, SERGEANT, FRED TWIDLE, A REGULAR SOLDIER WITH THE 3RD LINCOLNSHIRES, WHO WAS WOUNDED IN THE UPPER LEFT ARM IN 1914, DISCHARDED IN 1916 AND DIED ON 28/10/1918, AGED 32. THEY LEFT BROTHERS, HARRY, GEORGE AND SISTER ALICE.
