HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON HULL’S TRINITY NAVAL MEMORIAL, THE HULL MERCHANT NAVY ROLL OF HONOUR AND TOWER HILL MEMORIAL, LONDON, UK.

SS Henry R. James, built by J. L. Thompson & Sons, Ltd., Sunderland in 1909 and owned at the time of her loss by Henry R. James SS. Co. Ltd. (H. R. James & Sons), Bristol, was a British steamer of 3146 tons. On July 16th, 1917, Henry R. James, on a voyage from Bilbao via Brest to Middlesbrough with a cargo of iron ore, was sunk by the German submarine UC-48 (Kurt Ramien), 10 miles ExN from Île de Batz, Brittany. 24 persons were lost. Vleggeert Nico 12/08/2010 While on passage Bilbao via Brest to Middlesbrough with iron ore, the British steamship Henry R.James, was torpedoed by UC-48 and sank 10 miles ExN of Ile de Batz.
