BORN at 68 ROSAMOND STREET, HULL 1893. SON OF ALFRED HENRY VENUS (1846-1912) & BELINDA NEWTON (1844-1884). HIS FATHER REMARRIED FRANCES CHARITY WILLIAMS (1854-1910) & HAD 12 CHILDREN, LIVING IN THORNE.
ALBERT WORKED FOR A LOCAL TRAWLER COMPANY, AND SPENT SOME THREE YEARS IN CANADA BEFORE RETURNING TO HULL. HE LIVED WITH HIS SISTER EVA MARIA BONEWELL, AT 33 GEE STREET, HULL.
HE SERVED AS GUNNER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, 2ND NORTHUMBRIAN BRIGADE. KILLED IN ACTION, ON THE 24TH MAY 1915, AGED 22.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO TWO OF HIS SISTERS, EVA AND ETHEL. ALBERTS’ BODY WAS RECENTLY RECOVERED IN 2016 AND RE-BURIED IN YPRES.
BURIED AT YPRES TOWN CEMETERY EXTENSION. HIS GRAVE READS, “AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER
HIS BROTHER, HERBERT JAMES VENUS, WAS KILLED ON HMS BLACK PRINCE, ON 31/05/1916 A YEAR LATER.
