BORN HULL 1888. SON OF THE LATE THOMAS VOAKES (1847-1911) & ANN VOAKES (1848-1903), OF 38, MARMADUKE STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. HE WAS A RADIATOR WORKER, WORKING FOR HULL’S IDEAL STANDARD. HE LIVED WITH HIS BROTHERS AT 32 PERTH STREET, PRINCES AVENUE, HULL.

HE MARRIED MINNIE CARRINGTON, AT HULL, IN 1912. THEY HAD TWO DAUGHTERS AND LIVED AT 79, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 05/05/1915. SERVED WITH THE 1ST KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT THE 8TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 14/07/1915, AGED 27. HE IS BURIED IN FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFTTO HIS WIDOW, MINNIE.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, GEORGE VOAKES, SERVED WITH THE 2ND NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HIS OTHER BROTHER, GUNNER, SYDNEY VOAKES SERVED WITH THE 2ND NORTHUMBRIAN BRIGADE, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY.
