Walker, George William

BORN GREENGATES, YORKS, 1978. SON OF SAMUEL WALKER, OF 7, CATO AVENUE, ARUNDEL STREET, HULL AND NORNABELL STREET, HULL. HIS WIFE JANE ANN WALKER & TWO CHILDREN, LIVED AT, 2, CHESTNUT AVENUE, BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL AND 7 COURTNEY STREET, HULL.

HE WAS AN OLD SOLDIER HAVING SERVED IN THE BOER WAR. IN CIVILIAN LIFE HE WORKED FOR RANK FLOUR MILLS AS A LABOURER.

HE RE-ENLISTED ON THE 14TH SEPTEMBER 1914 AND WAS SENT TO THE FRONT ON THE 27TH DECEMBER 1914. HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON THE 23RD MARCH 1915, AGED 37. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND TWO CHILDREN. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 7TH APRIL 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES ON 10TH APRIL 1915. *

HIS DEATH IS RECORDED ON THE NORNABELL STREET SHRINE. Hull Daily Mail 08 November 1916

HE IS BURIED AT CITE BONJEAN MILITARY CEMETERY, ARMENTIERES, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR HUSBAND FROM WIFE DAUGHTER AND SON”
