BORN HULL 16/06/1887. SON OF ARABELLA SELLERS & THE LATE JOSEPH ALFRED WALKER(DIED 1896). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN AT THIS ADDRESS. THEY MOVED TO CLEETHORPES ROAD, GRIMSBY. SERVED AS DECKHAND, ON THE PADDLE MINESWEEPER, ‘BRIGHTON QUEEN’. LOST AT SEA ON 06/10/1915, AGED 27, WHEN THE SHIP WAS MINED OFF NIEUPORT. COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL.

The paddle steamship BRIGHTON QUEEN Pss was taken over by the Admiralty early in the First World War for service as a minesweeper. On October 6th, 1915, she was mined and sunk off Nieuport. Her complement as a minesweeper was about 60 officers and men. On October 6th, 1915, the British auxiliary minesweeper Brighton Queen was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-5 (Herbert Pustkuchen), 5 miles west of Nieuwport. 8 persons were killed.
