Walker, Harold.

BORN HULL 1894. SON OF MARY ELLEN FLEMING (1861-1928) AND JOHN EDWARD WALKER (1861-1910), OF 343, ANLABY ROAD, HULL. ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN, INCLUDING EIGHT SONS (SEVEN SERVED IN THE ARMY). THREE SONS WERE LOST IN THE WAR, ALL IN 1918. HIS FATHER WAS A CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT.

HE WAS EDUCATED AT HYMER’S COLLEGE, HULL, (LIKE ALL HIS BROTHERS). WORKED AS A SHIP OWNER’S CLERK.

ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 31/08/1914. SERVED WITH THE 1ST/1ST EAST RIDING YEOMANRY,  “B” SQUADRON. SERVED IN EGYPT AND PALESTINE. HE DIED OF INFLUENZA, AT ETAPLES, FRANCE, ON 19/06/1918, AGED 24. BURIED AT ETAPLES CEMETERY, FRANCE.

ONE OF THREE BROTHERS LOST IN THE WAR. HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON HYMERS WW1 ROLL OF HONOUR & ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD WITH HIS TWO BROTHERS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH JUNE 1918.

HIS BROTHER, 2ND LIEUT, JOHN CYRIL WALKER, 59TH SQDN., ROYAL AIR FORCE, WAS KILLED, AT CAMBRAI, ON 18/10/1918, AGED 18.

HIS BROTHER, 1ST LIEUT, VICTOR WALKER, 4TH GLOUCESTERS REGIMENT, WAS KILLED, AT THE SOMME, ON 04/04/1918, AGED 24.
