I am grateful to John Hartley for the following information sent on 3/11/2014.
Both William and David lived in Luddendenfoot at the time of the 1911 census and both are commemorated on the Luddendenfoot War Memorial.
Prior to being called up on 8th August 1914 (reservist) William was a Reserve Shunter at Luddendenfoot Station. David, who enlisted at a later unknown date, was also a Shunter at the station prior to the war. There is reference to a third son, on David’s brief newspaper obituary ‘His mother has suffered heavily, this being the third son she has lost in the war – two soldiers and one sailor.’ (This may be their eldest brother John Edward Walton born Hull 1888, drowned at sea in 1914, aged 26 – If you have any information to confirm, please contact this Website. Thank You)
