BORN HULL 1898. ELDEST CHILD OF WALTER & CATHERINE WARDELL, LIVING AT 11 ARTHURS TERRACE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORD AND WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE YOUNGER BROTHERS, THOMAS, JOSEPH AND ROBERT, AND A SISTER CATHERINE. EMPLOYED AS AN OIL MILL LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 18/05/1916. ARRIVED FRANCE, 29/12/1916. POSTED TO 19TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON 19/01/1917. REPORTED MISSING AND PRESUMED KILLED IN ACTION, ON 28/11/1917, AGED 19. HIS ARMY RECORDS SHOW HIS MOTHER WROTE ANXIOUS LETTERS TO THE WAR OFFICE ASKING ABOUT HER SON’S WHEREABOUTS. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
