HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 37019, IN THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 30/08/1918, AGED 20. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARY.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR. HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “R.I.P. I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT.”
