BORN HULL 1889. SON OF LUKE JAMES WASS (1868-1922) & CLARA LOFT (1865-1944), OF THIS ADDRESS. SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ONE OF FOUR SONS WHO ALL DIED IN THE WAR. A TINNERS LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 242784, WITH THE 2/5TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT. HE DIED ON 16/03/1917, AGED 28. HE IS BURIED AT QUEENS CEMETERY, BUCQUOY, FRANCE.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JAMES WASS, 6TH EYR, WAS KILLED ON 17/09/1917, AGED 25. ANOTHER BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOHN WASS, 8TH EYR, WAS KILLED AT ARRAS, ON 04/05/1917, AGED 19. HIS THIRD BROTHER, PRIVATE, SAMUEL WASS, 20TH HUSSARS, WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY& DIED OF CONSUMPTION 26/05/1917, AGED 23.THE BROTHER HAD ALL GONE WITHIN 16 MONTHS.
