BORN HULL 1891. SON OF LUKE JAMES WASS (1868-1922) & CLARA LOFT (1865-1944), OF THIS CWGC ADDRESS. SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ONE OF FOUR SONS WHO ALL DIED IN THE WAR. AN OIL MILL LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, AS PRIVATE, 10348, 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. SERVED IN GALLIPOLI, FRANCE AND BELGIUM. HE WAS KILLED NEAR YPRES, ON 17/09/1917, AGED 25. HE IS BURIED AT NO MAN’S COT CEMETERY, WEST-VLAANDEREN, BELGIUM.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, GEORGE WILLIAM WASS, 2/5TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT WAS KILLED ON 16/03/1917, AGED 28. PRIVATE, JOHN WASS, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT ARRAS, ON 04/05/1917, AGED 19. HIS THIRD BROTHER, PRIVATE, SAMUEL WASS, 20TH HUSSARS, DIED IN HULL, ON 26/05/1916, AGED 22. THEIR PARENTS HAD LOST ALL THEIR CHILDREN WITHIN 16 MONTHS OF THE WAR.
