BORN HULL 1893. SON OF LUKE JAMES WASS (1868-1922) & CLARA LOFT (1865-1944), OF 4, ROBINSON COURT, PRINCESS STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ONE OF FOUR SONS WHO DIED IN THE WAR. A GENERAL LABOURER. HE JOINED THE ARMY ON 13/08/1913, AGED 19 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 20TH CORPS OF HUSSARS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 124 LBS WEIGHT, 35 INCH CHEST, GREY EYES, BROWN HAIR, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION, “GOOD” CHARACTER. HE HAD SERVED FOR 1 YEAR AND 197 DAYS. WHEN DISCHARGED FROM THE CAVALRY ON 25/02/1915. HE DIED OF CONSUMPTION, IN HULL, ON 26/05/1916, AGED 23.
HIS ELDEST BROTHER, PRIVATE, GEORGE WILLIAM WASS, 2/5TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT, DIED ON 16/03/1917, AGED 28. HIS SECOND BROTHER, PRIVATE JAMES WASS, 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS, WAS KILLED ON 17/09/1917, AGED 25. HIS THIRD BROTHER. PRIVATE, JOHN WASS, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WAS KILLED AT ARRAS, ON 04/05/1917, AGED 19. THEIR PARENTS HAD LOST ALL THEIR CHILDREN IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS.
