Watson, Alfred Henry

BORN HULL 14/01/1883.  SON OF THE LATE JOHN HENRY & ELIZABETH WATSON, OF 58, WITTY STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL.

HIS WIFE MARGARET ANN WATSON LIVED AT 84, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL.

HE FORMERLY WORKED FOR THE GREAT NORTHERN STEAM FISHING COMPANY.

HE WAS KILLED BY A MINE EXPLOSION, ON THE TRAWLER ‘OTHELLO II’, WITH SEVEN OTHER CREW, WHEN THEIR SHIP HIT A MINE, ON 31/10/1915. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND FIVE CHILDREN AT 84, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 10/11/1915. *

HE IS RECORDED AS KILLED ON THE LIVERPOOL STREET SHRINE, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (Hull Daily Mail 30 August 1916).

Othello II, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Ltd., Beverley in 1907 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 206 tons.
On October 31st, 1915, Othello II was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-6 (Matthias Graf von Schmettow), off Leathercoat. 9 persons were lost.
