Watson, William Jordan Rice

William Jordan Rice Watson is commemorated on the St John The Baptist Church Memorial, Newington, Hull. Records suggest that he served during the 1914-18 War, but dis not die until 1951?

Born Hull 30 June 1873. Son of Jordan Rice Watson (1849-1873) and Emily Watson 91851-1883). Baptised at St James Church, Hull, 13 Jul 1873. Raised ay stepmother Eliza W. Walsh, a fisherman’s wife, at 4,Elgin Terrace, Hull.

Married Esther Jane Betts (1876-1941), at Hull, on 30 July 1895, aged 22. Living at 47, Somerset Street, Hull (1911 & 1939 Census). They had four sons and two daughters, including their eldest son, William Jordan Rice Watson, (1896-1949).

William Jordan Rice Watson, born 1874, aged 43, received an expression of appreciation for his good conduct when his ship was sunk on 01/02/1917.

Worked as a Fish Fryer, still living at 47 Somerset Street, Hull (1939 Census)

Died at Hull, January 1951- aged 77.
