Waudby, Arthur

Born North Cave, 1894. Son of Ada Ann Donkin (formerly Waudby) (1867-1945) , of 34a, Lorne Street, Waterloo Street, Hull, and the late John Waudby (1859-1897). He had two brothers, John William and Thomas Waudby, three half brothers, James, George and Frank Donkin and sister Ada Donkin. A Tanner.

He enlisted in Hull, on 11/12/1915, aged 22. Described as 5 foot, 8.5 inches tall, 35.5 inch chest, 140 lbs weight, and “good” physical development. Posted to France, on 06/05/1916. Served as Private, Arthur Waudby, 16032/21524, 8th Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. Reported missing and then killed on 14/07/1916. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

He had served in the army for 271 days.

His brother, Private, Thomas Waudby, was killed on the 26/09/1916, aged 24.
