BORN HULL 1895. SCULCOATES. STEPSON OF GEORGE & ELLEN TAYLOR, OF 6, QUEENS TERRACE, GILLETT STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS), 43, WEST DOCK AVENBUE, HULL AND 5 SUBWAY STREET, HULL (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESSES). PRIOR TO THE WAR HE WORKED AS A BOILER CLEANER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 9TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WITH HIS FRIEND, CHARLES GOODEVE, BOTH WERE DRUMMERS AND WERE KILLED TOGETHER, AT GALLIPOLI, ON THE SAME DAY – 09/08/1915. THEY ARE PHOTOGRAPHED TOGETHER IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 4TH OCTOBER 1915, (JOHN WEST IS SEATED)*

AGED 20 WHEN HE WAS KILLED.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED AS KILLED, ON THE GILLETT STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 30 August 1916).
