BORN HULL 1897. SON OF CHARLES ALBERT & MARY WHARRIE – 5 MORRIL TERRACE, VILLA PLACE, HULL. PRIOR TO ENLISTING WE WAS A GROCER’S ASSISTANT. HE RESIDED AT 5 BERKSHIRE STREET, HULL AND 5 MORRELL’S BUILDINGS, VILLA PLACE, HULL .

CHARLES WHARRIE SERVED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL (DCM). HE

DIED OF WOUNDS RECIEVED IN ACTION, ON 04/12/1917. HE WAS AGED 20 AND BURIED WITH FULL MILITARY HONOURS AT HEDON ROAD CEMETERY.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 23RD FEBRUARY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS FATHER SERVED, IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE, ON MINE SWEEPERS. HE ALSO HAD EIGHT COUSINS SERVING, WHICH INCLUDED L/CPL PERCY VAREY, DCM. A BROTHER IN LAW HAD BEEN TWICE WOUNDED.
