BORN HULL 1893. SON OF WILLIAM (1870-1941) & ANNIE ELIZABETH WHELDALE (1869-1933), OF 3 ETTYS GROVE, WYNDHAM STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WORKED AT THE GENERAL POST OFFICE, HULL. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS, LAWRENCE, ERNEST, KENNETH AND ERIC.

HE MARRIED ANNIE (WILSON) WHELDALE, AT HULL, IN 1914. HE WAS A FORMER NEEDLER’S EMPLOYEE & WORKED IN A SWEET SHOP. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE NEEDLER’S WW1 MEMORIAL PLAQUE.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 203492, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 30/04/1917, AGED 24. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ANNIE.
HE IS BURIED AT WARLINCOURT HALTE BRITISH CEMETERY, SAULTY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “EVER IN THOUGHT FROM HIS SORROWING WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN”.
