Alfred Edward Whitaker

Born Barton 1888. Son of Alfred Edward Whitaker (b. 1861) and Elizabeth Higham (1860-1935), of 26 Margaret Street, Hull (Pension records address). He had two brothers and a sister. A former Rullyman for the Hull and Barnsley Railway.

He married at Sculcoates, Hull, 1910. His wife Gertrude Desforges (1892-1972), lived at 24 Seaton Street; the Maltings, Hull & later Barton.

He enlisted at Lincoln, on 01/11/1914. Served with the 7th Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds, at 23rd Hospital, Etaples, on 12/03/1916, aged 27.

Listed as Killed in action on Northumberland Avenue Roll of Honour. His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 18/03/1916. *

His brother Charley Whitaker, of 26 Margaret Street, Beverley Road Hull, was a time expired Territorial soldier. He re-enlisted on 05/08/1914, served as Private,6343,1/4th EYR and was discharged with epilepsy, on 18/03/1916. His other brother, Samuel Whiaker, lived at 4 Richmond Terrace, Grange Street, Hull.
