Born Cherry Burton, 1883. His wife, Edith and five daughters Elsie, Betsie, May, Eva and Edith, lived at 3, Northumberland Avenue, Hull (CWGC address).

He was a farm foreman and ex Blundell’s paint worker.

He enlisted at Hull. Formerly, Private, 204752 EYR. He transferred to the 7th Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds, 03/06/1918, aged 35.

His name is recorded in Hull’s Holy Trinity memorial book. He left a widow, Ethel Alice (born on 3/9/1884 and five dependent daughters born between 1909-1918. Awarded a weekly war pension of 37/11 shillings on 16/12/1918.

HE IS BURIED AT AUCHONVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE FROM HIS LOVING WIFE AND CHILDREN”
