BORN HULL 27/02/1897. SON OF WILLIAM WHITEHURST (1862-1935) AND MARY GARDHAM (1867-1930), AT 31 CAVE STREET, HULL. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. EDUCATED AT TRINITY HOUSE NAVIGATION SCHOOL. APPRENTICED TO MESSRS, WRIGHT AND BACON, SHIP OWNERS. HIS FATHER WAS EMPLOYED AS A LAMP LIGHTER FOR THE BRITISH GAS COMPANY.

ENLISTED AT YORK, ON THE 06/08/1914. SHOWED GOOD POTENTILA AS A SOLDIER AND POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 19/01/1915. SERVED WITH THE 1ST HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED AT NEUVE CHAPELLE, ON 18/03/1915, AGED 18. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM.
HIS DEATH AND ADDRESS WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 17/04/1915.
HIS DETAILS ARE RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 1, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
