YOUNGEST SON OF FRANK WHITTON (1857-1932) & ANNIE BARBER (1857-1935), AT 2, WOODCOCK STREET, HULL, 98, DIVISON ROAD, HULL AND 8, CAMPBELL TERRACE, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. A FISH PACKER, AT HULL DOCKS. HE WAS A MANAGER OF A WHOLESALE FISH BUSINESS, IN SWANSEA. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 36-38.5 INCH CHEST, 138 LBS WEIGHT, SCARS AND BURN MARKS.

HE  ENLISTED SWANSEA, ON 28/11/1915. CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, ON 29/02/1916. ATTACHED TO THE 2ND YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 02/07/1916. SERVED WITH THE 7TH EYR. HE HAD BEEN AT THE FRONT FOR JUST THREE WEEKS WHEN HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/07/1916, AGED 26. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

UNMARRIED. LEFT SIBLINGS, FLORENCE, FRANK, ARTHUR AND MAY. HIS ARMY EFFECYTS WENT TO HIS MOTHER AT 8, CAMPBELL TERRACE, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL
