BORN HULL 1882. SON OF WILLIAM & MARIA WHITWORTH, OF HULL. HIS PARENTS WERE DECEASED. HE WORKED AS A BRICKLAYER’S LABOURER. BROTHER TO JOSEPH, TOM, CHARLOTTE, ANN-MARIE, BETSY, AND ROSE.

HE LIVED WITH HIS BROTHER, JOSEPH AND SISTER ANN MARIE, AT 8, DANES CRESCENT, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS)

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, ON 30/03/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 29/07/1916. POSTED TO THE 103RD COMPANY, MACHINE GUN CORPS, ON 03/12/1916. REPORTED MISSING AND KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/04/1917, AGED 35.

SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 31 DAYS. HIS BROTHER, JOSEPH, ENLISTED AS PRIVATE, 6TH EYR.

BURIED AT BROWN’S COPSE CEMETERY, ROEUX, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GOD BE WITH YOU TILL WE MEET AGAIN”

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH MEMORIAL, NEWINGTON, HULL.
