BORN BEVERLEY 1895. SON OF THE REVEREND, WILLIAM ELLIOT WIGFALL & CLARA WIGFALL, OF 18 WESTWOOD ROAD, BEVERLEY AND “RENISHAW” HOUSE, MOLESCROFT. HIS FATHER WAS RECTOR OF BEVERLEY MINSTER. WILLIAM WAS EDUCATED AT BEVERLEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL UNTIL AGED 13 AND THEN REPTON SCHOOL, BURTON ON TRENT. HE WENT TO QUEEN’S COLLEGE, OXFORD TO STUDY THEOLOGY, BUT AFTER ONE YEAR, TO ENLIST. HE RESIDED IN MOLESCROFT, BEVERLEY.

HE WAS COMMISSIONED INTO THE 3RD EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND ATTACHED TO THE 8TH BATTALION. AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS FOR BRAVERY. WOUNDED IN THE THIGH. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 18/08/1916, AGED 20. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT £219 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM. HE IS BURIED AT BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THOU GAVEST HIM A LONG LIFE EVEN FOR EVER AND EVER PSALM XXI. 4.”
