Wilcockson, Geoffrey

Withernsea WW! Memorial, Queens Street. The memorial was erected in 1923 at a cost of £451, the funds for which were collected through public subscription. A service of dedication was held in 1924. Inscribed in four columns the names of sixty-four men killed in World War I.

BORN HULL 1894. ONLY SON OF JOHN WILCOCKSON & ADA WILCOCKSON, AT THIS 1918 MILITARY VOTERS ADDRESS. A FORMER SHIPPING CLERK. HE ENLISTED IN THE 10TH EYR (HULL PALS). TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST BATTALION, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 25/04/1918, AGED 24. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, DORIS I MILLWARD, WHO HE MARRIED IN 1918. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON HULL’S HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL. HE IS LISTED ON THE WILSON LINE CRICKET & ATHLETIC CLUB’S ROLL OF HONOUR.

HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE WITHERNSEA WW1 MEMORIAL.
