George Wilkins

Born HULL, Yorkshire, 08/05/1884. Son of George Wilkins (1838-1914) and Ann Miller. Educated at Barton Weslyean Day School. His family moved to Barton upon Irwell, Lancashire, where he married and enlisted. He resided at Patricroft, Lancs. worked for the Daveyhulme Sewage Plant for Manchester Corporation. Married Amelia Taylor at Barton upon Irwell, Lancashire, in 1908, aged 23. They had three children.

Served with 16th Manchester Pals Regiment. Killed in severe night fighting, on 09/07/1916, aged 32. He left a widow and three children. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

His brother, Private, Charles Wilkins, 13th Manchester Regiment, died of wounds, on 27/01/1915, aged 32, and is buried at Barton Upon Irwell, Lancashire.
