Wilkinson & OAKES Deaths reported in WW1 Hull

BORN HULL 1897. SON OF FREDERICK WILKINSON & ELLEN WILKINSON (1868-1946), OF 31 ABBEY STREET, HULL  & 17 BLAKE STREET, HULL. SON OF A BOILER MAKER. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS, ALBERT AND FREDERICK, AND THREE SISTERS, DORIS, BEATRICE AND MARY. HE WAS A GROCER BEFORE THE WAR (1911 CENSUS) AND A MEDICAL STUDENT, WORKING AS AN ASSISTANT FOR MR A HOWE’S CHEMIST, SPRING BANK. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 33-35 INCH CHEST, 124 LBS WEIGHT, “FAIR” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 10/12/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 05/07/1916, SERVING WITH “A” COMPANY, THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. APPOINTED LANCE CORPORAL ON 24/02/1917. HE HAD BEEN ON FRANCE FOR ELEVEN MONTHS BEFORE HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 12/05/1917, AGED 20. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES ON THE 15TH JUNE 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ELLEN AT THIS WAR PENSION ADDRESS.
