Wilkinson, Herbert

BORN HULL 1896. SON OF PRISCILLA BEST (1858-1928) & CHARLES WILLIAM WILKINSON (1856-1937), OF 2 EASTERN VILLAS, HOLLAND STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF AN IRON TURNER. ONE OF SIX CHILDREN AND THREE SONS LOST IN THE WAR. HE WORKED AS A HAIRDRESSER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 13TH LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 13TH LABOUR BATTALION, ‘C’ COMPANY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 15/03/1917, AGED 21. HE IS BURIED AT HULL’S HEDON ROAD CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN LOVING MEMORY THE DEARLY BELOVED SON OF CHARLES AND PRISCILLA WILKINSON”.
HIS BROTHER, ABLE SEAMAN, LAWRENCE WILKINSON, WAS LOST ON HMS “BAYANO” ON 11/03/1915, AGED 23. ANOTHER BROTHER, CHARLES ALSO DIED.
