Wilkinson, William Sheppard

BORN SUTTON 30/09/1898. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM WILKINSON (1862-1949) & JESSIE SHEPPARD (1867-1948), OF SUMMERJAY’S COTTAGE, WESTCOTT STREET, HULL AND “ASHDENE”, SUTTON, INGS.  SON OF A MARKET GARDENER. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN AND THREE SONS KILLED IN THE WAR. EDUCATED AT MERSEY STREET SCHOOL. HE WORKED WITH HIS WITH HIS FATHER AS A MARKET GARDENER, IN SUTTON AND INGS.

HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY ON 06/04/1915. SERVED IN FRANCE FROM DECEMBER 1915. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 19/09/1917, AGED 19. BURIED AT ZUDCOT CEMETERY. HE WAS UNMARRIED.
ONE OF THREE BROTHERS KILLED IN THE WAR, ALL IN 1917. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE SUTTON MEMORIAL WITH OLDER BROTHER, SGT, JOHN HENRY WILKINSON, MM, 10TH EYR, WHO DIED OF WOUNDS, FROM OPPY WOOD, ON 02/06/1917, AGED 24.
HIS OTHER BROTHER, PTE, ARTHUR FREDERICK WILKINSON, SERVED WITH THE 44TH CANADIANS, AND WAS KILLED AT PASCHENDAELE, ON 27/10/1917, AGED 22.

ANOTHER BROTHER, PRIVATE, JAMES WILLIAM WILKINSON, SERVED WITH THE CANADIAN SCOTTISH REGIMENT.
