BORN SUTTON ON HULL, 1896. SECOND SON OF JAMES HERBERT & ELIZABETH WILLIS, OF LOWGATE, SUTTON ON HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
PRIOR TO WAR HE WAS PARTNER IN HIS FATHER’S MARKET GARDENING BUSINESS (1911 CENSUS). HE ALSO WORKED AT SISSONS FACTORY, STONEFERRY AND WAS MEMBER OF THE SISSONS SILVER PRIZE BAND. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. LEFT FOR THE DARDENELLES, ON 14/07/1915. KILLED IN ACTION, AT GALLIPOLI, ON 09/08/1915, AGED 19.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 09/08/1915, AGED 19. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE SUTTON ON HULL WAR MEMORIAL. HE LEFT SIBLINGS, GEORGE, ROLAND AND DORIS.
HIS OLDER BROTHER, PTE, GEORGE H. WILLIS, SERVED WITH THE 13TH EYR. THEY ARE BOTH PHOTOGRAPHED TOGETHER IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20TH SEPTEMBER 1915. *
