Wilson, Arthur

BORN WESTCOTTINGWITH, YORKSHIRE, 10/04/1887. SON OF JAMES SHARP WILSON (1850-1924) AND ELIZABETH (ELIZA) NEWSOME (1851-1920), OF THE “STEAM PACKET INN”, HOWDENDYKE. THIRD OF SEVEN CHILDREN. AN EX FARM HAND & HULL CITY ASYLUM ATTENDANT. HE MARRIED ANNIE WALKER (1888-1975), AT LASTINGHAM, ON 12/06/1915.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, IN SEPTEMBER, 1914. JOINED AS  TROOPER, 17414, IN THE 11TH CAVALRY RESERVE. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 10TH HAMPSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, IN MACADONIA, ON 01/09/1918, AGED 30. BURIED AT KARASOULI MILITARY CEMETERY, GREECE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”.

HIS WIFE ANNIE MOVED TO “GLENDENE”, SPAUNTON, SINNINGTON, YORKSHIRE. SHE AND THEIR ONE CHILD WERE DEEMED INELIGIBLE FOR A PENSION, AS SHE MARRIED AFTER HIS ENLISTMENT. (PENSION LEDGER RECORDS).
