BORN BEEFORD, DRIFFIELD, YORKSHIRE, 01/12/1892. SECOND SON OF THOMAS WILSON & CATHERINE USHER, OF GARTH COTTAGE, NORTH FERRIBY. SON OF A COACHMAN. HIS MOTHER WAS FROM HORNSEA. EDUCATED AT TURNER MEMORIAL SCHOOL, NORTH FERRIBY. WORKED AS A GARDENER, AT MILTON ABBEY, BLANDFORD, DORSET. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 34-36 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR, MOLE ON LEFT CHEEK, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

HE ENLISTED AT BLANDFORD, DORSET, ON 11/08/1914. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT, ON 14/12/1914. SERVED WITH THE 5TH DORSET REGIMENT. POSTED TO THE DARDENELLES ON 01/07/1915. KILLED IN ACTION, AT GALLIPOLI, ON 21/08/1915, AGED 22. A BROTHER, SERGEANT WROTE, “HE WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD. DEATH BEING INSTANTANEOUS. I HAVE KNOWN HIM SINCE THE WAR STARTED A YEAR AGO AND ALWAYS FOUND HIM ONE OF THE BEST. IN LOSING HIM THE REGIMENT LOST A GOOD SOLDIER, AND THE MEN OF “C” COMPANY, A PAL.” HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR ONE YEAR AND TEN DAYS AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE HELLES MEMORIAL.

HIS DEATH WAS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNEY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 2. HIS BRITISH WAR MEDAL AND VICTORY MEDAL WERE FORWARDED TO HIS FATHER, TOM WILSON, ON 24/06/1921.
