BORN HULL 17/10/1893. JAMES WILLIAM WILSON & SARAH FRANCIS COLLINSON, OF 104 BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL AND 23, CROMER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A SCHOOL CARETAKER. HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. WORKED AS A WAREHOUSE LABOURER (1911 CENSUS). UNMARRIED. HE JOINED THE ROAYL NAVY ON 23/08/1912. KILLED ON HMS “QUEEN MARY”, AT THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND, ON 31/05/1916, AGED 22.

HE HAD BEEN ON LEAVE, THREE MONTHS BEFORE AND PLANNED TO BE MARRIED IN THREE WEEKS TIME. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/06/1916. *

HMS Queen Mary was a Queen Mary class Battle Cruiser, lost at the battle of Jutland. At 16.25 Queen Mary exploded and went down in only 90 seconds after probably receiving a hit from the German Battle Cruiser Von Der Tann.
