BORN HULL 03/01/1890. SON OF CHARLES WING (1837-1919) & MARY JANE RUNNALLS (1844-1911), OF 122, CLARENDON STREET, HULL, AND 7, LIME TREE AVENUE, GARDEN VILLAGE, HULL. UNMARRIED. HE LIVED WITH HIS FATHER, A NAVLA PENSIONER, AT THIS ADDRESS. ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. HE WORKED AS A PLUMBER AND GAS FITTER (1911 CENSUS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE TERRITORIALS IN 1906. SERVED WITH THEM FOR FIVE YEARS, AND ATTAINED THE RANK OF SERGEANT.
HE JOINED THE 6TH EYR AS A PRIVATE, AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR IN AUGUST 1914. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT IN JANUARY 1915. WENT TO THE DARDENELLES IN JUNE 1915. IN CHARGE OF THE MACHINE GUN SECTION. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT SULVA BAY, ON 09/08/1915, TRYING TO SAVE THE GUN. HE WAS AGED 25. A RETURNED SERGEANT SAID THAT “HE WAS A TRUE SOLDIER TO THE END.” HE WAS A SINGLE MAN. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS FATHER, CHARLES, WHO WAS A NAVAL PENSIONER (AND DIED IN 1919).

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
