BORN PETERBOROUGH 1877. SON OF GEORGE & HARRIET WINTER OF 40 EDGECUMBE STREET. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A SERGEANT, WITH THE 2ND YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED ON 06/11/1918, AGED 41. HE IS BURIED AT BETTRECHIES COMMUNAL CEMETERY, NORD FRANCE. HIS GRAVE  INSCRIPTION, READS, “DEARER TO MEMORY THAN WORDS CAN TELL”

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS, WW1 MEMORIAL, AT BEVERLEY MEMORIAL HALL WHICH RECORDS 145 MEMBERS WHO DIED IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR.

HIS TWO BROTHERS GUNNER, VICTOR WINTER, RFA, & CLARENCE WINTER, ALSO DIED IN THE WAR.
