Winter, Herbert Henry

BORN HULL 1891. SON OF ROBERT WILLIAM WINTER (1868-1931) & MARGARET MOORE (1866-1945), OF 7 KIRKELLA GROVE, GORDON STREET, HUL (1901 CENSUS) AND 17 ARTHUR STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HIS FATHER WAS A RAIL PASSENGER GUARD. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

HE HAD JOINED THE ARMY YOUNG AND WAS BASED IN ALDERSHOT WITH 1ST EYR IN 1911. HE WAS SENT TO FRANCE AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HE WAS LEFT ON THE FIELD WOUNDED AND NOT SEEN AGAIN. PRESUMED KILLED IN ACTION AT YPRES, ON 23/04/1915, AGED 24. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 21ST MAY 1915. *

HIS BROTHER ALSO SERVED AT THE FRONT AND ANOTHER JOINED THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY LATER.
