Wise, Arthur Ernest

BORN NEWPORT, 1873. WIFE MAUD ALICE WISE LIBED ABOVE. SON OF THE LATE ROBERT & ARABELLA WISE. HIS BROTHER WALTER HERBERT WISE, (EASTBOURNE STREET) WAS LOST ON THE SAME SHIP WHEN IT WAS SUNK BY A GERMAN SUBMARINE. THE TWO BROTHER’S PHOTOGRAPHS APPEAR IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 19TH JUNE 1915 AND THE HULL DAILY MAIL 24TH JUNE 1915. *
Argyll (H 923) or Argyle (both names used), built by Mackie & Thomson, Govan in 1906 and owned at the time of her loss by Gt. Northern Steamship Fishing Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British trawler of 280 tons. On June 15th, 1915, Argyll was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-11 (Walter Gottfried Schmidt), 12 miles ESE of Harwich. 7 persons were lost.
