Woodcraft, William Herbert

BORN NORWICH 1876. ONLY SON OF ZACHARIA WOODCRAFT (1848-1899) & ELIZA ANN BARKER (1847-1941), OF 4, ‘THE HAVEN’, GARDEN VILLAGE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO SISTERS, EMILY AND ELLEN. THE FAMILY HAD BEEN LIVING IN HULL SINCE 1881. HE WORKED AT THE RECKITTS STARCH WORKS, FOR 26 YEARS AND LIVED AT 26, THOMAS STREET, HULL, WITH HIS SISTER. ELLEN, WHO WAS A DRESSMAKER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL IN AUGUST 1916. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, IN SEPTEMBER 1916. DIED OF TUBERCULOSIS, ON 02/06/1918, AGED 42, AT THE ROYAL HERBERT HOSPITAL, WOOLWICH, LONDON.
HE LEFT HIS WAR PENSION TO HIS MOTHER, ELIZABETH AND TWO SISTERS, ELLEN EDITH WOODCRAFT AND EMILY GERTRUDE BINKS.
HE IS BURIED AT HULL’S HEDON ROAD CEMETERY. HIS CWGC GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “DEARLY LOVED”
