HE MARRIED, MARGARET MARY MOFFAT, FROM 28 REDBOURNE STREET, HULL, ON 02/06/1898. THEY HAD FIVE CHILDREN. HE LIVED AT 14 PRETORIA STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 8 TORRINGTON VILLAS, FRANKLIN STREET, HULL. HE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA, ON 09/05/1912. LIVING AT 41 BEAUMONT STREET, HAMILTON. HE ENLISTED IN NEWCASTLE, NEW SOUTH WALES, ON 11/12/1916, AGED 40 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS. TRAINED WITH THE 63RD AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 28/08/1917, JOINING THE 36TH AIR BATTALION. WOUNDED IN THE RIGHT THIGH, DURING ACTION, ON 01/10/1917. INVALIDED TO ENGLAND. REJOINED HIS UNIT, ON 28/01/1918 IN BELGIUM. TRANSFERRED TO THE 33RD AIF BATTALION, ON 30/04/1918. HIS THIGH WAS SHATTERED BY A BULLET AND HE DIED OF WOUNDS, THE SAME DAY, ON THE 25/08/1918, AGED 42.
HE IS BURIED AT DAOURS COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, SOMME, FRANCE, PLOT 3, ROW F, GRAVE 10.
