Wooll, George

BORN LOCKINGTON 1875. SON OF ROBERT & JANE WOOLL. LIVED BEVERLEY. LIEUTENANT AND QUARTER MASTER OF THE NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS HAD RISEN THROUGH THE RANKS. ENLISTED AT 17 YEARS OLD IN THE IST BATTALION AND RETIRED AFTER 21 YEARS SERVICE. HE POSSESSED THE NILE EXPEDITION MEDAL 1898. SOUTH AFRICAN WAR MEDALS 1899- 1902, THE MOHAN EXPEDITION MEDAL 1908, THE DELHI DURBAR MEDAL AND THE LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDALS. ON RETIRING FROM THE AR,Y IN DECEMBER 1913, HE SET UP A SWEET SHOP IN EALING , LONDON. HE REJOINED AT THE START OF THE WAR AND WAS KILLED AT GALIPOLLI. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH APPEAR IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 3RD SEPTEMBER 1915. *
