BORN BRIDLINGTON 1877. SON OF JOHN WROOT (1848-1934) & JANE ANN DANBY (1853-1894), OF 6. BEEHIVE COTTAGE, BRIDLINGTON.
HE MARRIED FLORENCE ADA ROGERS, IN 1901. HE HAD WORKED AS A RAILWAY SHUNTER, FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS SINCE APRIL, 1910, IN WEST HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS, WITH DISTINCTION AT GALLIPOLI. SUFFERED FROM YELLOW JAUNDICE IN GREECE. PROMOTED TO SEGEANT. KILLED IN FRANCE, ON 15/09/1916, AGED 39. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH, WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL.
HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, RICHARD WROOT, JOINED THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN 1904 AND WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER. HIS OLDER BROTHER, HENRY WROOT DIED AT YORK IN 1917. THEIR SISTER ANNIE ELIZA WROOT MARRIED A TEACHER AND MOVED TO HACKNEY, LONDON.
