Yeadon, John

BORN HULL 23/06/1897. SON OF JOSEPH AND TERESSA YEADON, OF 43 , CROWLE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION, CWGC & NAVAL ADDRESS). ABLE SEAMAN. HE JOINED THE ROYAL NAVY, ON 18/04/1914. DIED AT ZEEBRUGGE, ON 23/04/1918, AGED 20.
HE IS BURIED IN KENT AT DOVER (ST. JAMES’S) CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE SLEEPS WITH BRITISH HEROES IN THE WATCHFUL CARE OF GOD”.

HMS Vindictive was sunk as a blockship at Ostend during the Second Ostend Raid on 10 May 1918. The wreck was raised on 16 August 1920 and subsequently broken up. The bow section has been preserved in Ostend harbour serving as a memorial.
